Making a Candle Light

Here is the step by step tutorial:

Step 1: First we have to find a photo with some burning candle or you can use the image below:

Create_candle_light1

Create a new layer and fill it with black, then go to Filter>Render>Lens Flare and use the following settings:

Create_candle_light2

Step 2: Go to Edit>Transform>Scale (or select the Move tool and tick on Show Transform Controls) and scale the "lens flare" layer down

Create_candle_light3

Press Enter to leave this mode

Step 3: Move this layer up a bit and change its blending mode to Screen to remove all the black areas. Now you just see the "lens flare"

Create_candle_light4

Step 4: Press Ctrl-J to duplicate this layer and tick on Show Transform Controls checkbox(make sure you select the Move tool first) and rotate this layer 90o

Create_candle_light5

Step 5: Duplicate this layer to two more layers and rotate them 45oCW and 45oCCW in turn

Create_candle_light6

Step 6: Select all layers except the Background and press Ctrl-E to merge all of them. Change the Blending mode of this layer to Screen again

Create_candle_light7

Step 7: We should blur the candle light a little a make it look more real by going to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur and use these settings:

Create_candle_light9

Name this layer "Candle Light"

Step 8: We will make a simple glowing effect round the light. Duplicate this layer and go to Filter>Sketch>Chrome and use default settings:

Create_candle_light11

You will see a white glowing effect wrap the light. Next we change the blending mode of this layer to Color Dodge. This mode will help our effect blend well with the light by absorbing the candle's glow

Create_candle_light13

Press Ctrl-E to merge down this layer

Step 9: Go to Edit>Transform>Scale and reduce its size a bit and use the Move tool to place it on the top of a candle

Create_candle_light14

Step 10: We had a good candle light but the color is still not great. So go to Image>Adjustments>Color Balance (Ctrl-B) and use these settings:

Create_candle_light15

Create_candle_light16

Create_candle_light17

And it's all. You can see the result below:

Create_candle_light18

You can try creating light on other candles or add some effects on them.

Simple Web 2.0 Button

Step 1: Create a new 800x800 pixels document (in fact, size is not a matter)

Simple Attractive Button 1

Step 2: Right click on your shape tool and choose Rounded Rectangle Tool

Simple Attractive Button 2

set the radius (on the top toolbar) about 5 pixels Simple Attractive Button 2b

Step 3: Change your foreground and background to light green and dark green with these values

Simple Attractive Button 3

Step 4: Now draw a small rectangle on your document. On the Layers tab, double click on your new created layer to open the Layer Style dialog box. Use these effects:

+ Drop shadow:

Simple Attractive Button 4

+ Gradient Overlay:

(choose Foreground to Background option)

+ Stroke:

Simple Attractive Button 6

After using these effects, our rectangle will look like this:

Simple Attractive Button 6b

We will draw something on our rectangle.

Step 5: Right click on the shape tool again, but this time we choose Custom Shape Tool

Simple Attractive Button 7

Step 6: On the top toolbar, you will see a small arrow on the right side of the "Shape" word, click on it. If you just see a few shapes then click on the small arrow on the top right of the box, choose All to load all shapes

Simple Attractive Button 8

Select a shape you like and draw it on your rectangle

Simple Attractive Button 9

My note is pink just because it is the selected layer. In fact, your shape will be green because it uses your foreground color by default.

Step 7: To change your shape's color, double click on its layer to open the Layer Style dialog box, use Stroke effect with yellow like this:

Simple Attractive Button 10

Use the Horizontal Type Tool(T) to write something you want. Here is the result:

Simple Attractive Button 11

You can stop here! But if you want to make your button more attractive, I will show you an interesting technique.

Step 8: In the Layers tab, choose the top layer (by default, maybe it is Shape 2 layer or your text layer, if you used one) and click on "Create a new layer" icon

Simple Attractive Button 12

Step 9: Right click on the Marquee Tool(M) and choose Elliptical Marquee Tool

Simple Attractive Button 13

draw a small ellipse on the top of your rectangle

Simple Attractive Button 14

Step 10: Press Shift-F5 to open the Fill dialog box, select White in the drop-down list. Click OK

Simple Attractive Button 15

Step 11: Double click on your current layer. In the General Blending, reduce Opacity to 25. Deselect all other effects if they are in use.

Simple Attractive Button 16

Now press Ctrl-D to deselect the ellipse, here is the final result

Simple Attractive Button 17

Note: if you don't use a white background, you will see an unwanted white area outside your rectangle. To fix this problem, you have to make a precise selection (which is intersected by your rectangular selection and your elliptical selection).
